BMWs are not the cheapest cars to buy, but if you are looking for quality performance and good value for money, purchasing a BMW is a good option. The BMW X5 is no exception, but it retains its value very well thanks to the low running costs, fuel economy and low emissions. 

Step into a BMW X5 and you’ll discover an interior which offers great quality and style. Not only is the X5 a good choice of 4x4, it also doubles up as an MPV, offering 7 seats if you need it. The extra 2 seats are large enough to seat two small adults and can also be folded down to reveal a vast boot. The only negative to the additional seats is that they lack side curtain air bags.

Safety in general in the BMW X5 is good, as is the security measures in place. The on and off road traction and stability aids come and standard on all BMW cars. Added extras to the X5 include front and rear parking cameras and fog lamps that shine around corners. If you opt for the M Sport versions you can also benefit from sporty features such as alloy wheels, lower seats and adjusted suspension. 

The driving position is excellent as it is fully adjustable allowing for the smallest of drivers to feel comfortable and in control. However, you may find that the gearstick, handbrake and the iDrive system takes a bit of time to adjust to. 

We would choose a diesel engine if you want the best value for money out of your X5 car. The 241 bhp 30d is a good choice and it offers low running costs and is the cheapest to buy. All of the engines offer a great driving experience and the X5 performs particularly well on tarmac for a 4x4 car. If you’re heading off road then be wary not to push it too far.
