The Fiat 500 is an ingenious little car which captures all the best features about the original Fiat cars with a modern twist. Since its launch it has become a very popular car in the UK, and  like the BMW MINI, Fiat has produced a quirky and fun to drive supermini which is able to offer great fuel economy. 

The engine of a Fiat 500 has been taken from the Panda city hatch but it has been restyled to create a more modern car which offers plenty of safety features and enough room to seat four adults comfortably despite its tiny frame. From the outside, it’s the spitting image of a 1960s Fiat car, and if you step inside, you’ll find more of the same. The cabin is retro in style with the old-fashioned radio being the central feature on the dash, and all of the other controls are large and easy to read.

Getting in and out of the Fiat 500 is surprisingly easy, and although the car is made to seat two adults in the back, there is plenty of space so as not to feel cramped. The boot is also surprisingly generous for a city car - although if you plump for a used Fiat 500 convertible, then you'll sacrifice some of that space for wind-in-your-hair fun. 

To drive, the Fiat 500 is not the fastest of cars - even though the 1.4 engine does promise 100bhp, it takes a lot of effort to get up to speed. Thankfully the pedals are light and the gear shift is fluid which helps. However, this car makes for a bumpy ride. Whether you’re out and about town or cruising on the motorway, there is plenty of road and wind noise which becomes irritating after a while. 

Overall, the Fiat 500 remains a great car. Even the top of the range 1.4 Fiat 500 "Lounge" model is offered at a good price. There is a large list of features you can add to this car, and for the money, you’ll be very tempted. Used Fiat 500 cars also sell very well, so if you’re looking for a second hand model, you’ll be able to pick up a good one for a bargain price.
