Following the recent news that new car registrations had increased by 8.3% in 2014, reaching a ten-year high, the UK’s largest independently owned car company announces their success in 2014, and their continued efforts to provide great value and quality service to customers.
Scott Willis, sales director at Arnold Clark, commented: ‘2014 was a record year for the Motor Trade in general and our group was no exception to this.
‘For the first half of the year, high demand and a slight shortage of supply, allied to the continuation of the lowest interest rates in living memory meant that we had all the tools necessary to offer customers very attractive changeover terms, and consequently, lower than historical (and expected) monthly payments. This in turn meant not only a significantly higher number of new cars sold, but also, in tandem, our used car sales kept pace.
‘The second half of the year was much more challenging; however, manufacturers reacted strongly to this by bringing out exceptionally attractive personal contract hire products, offering significant deposit contributions and attractive residual values, this kept monthly payments on new cars very low, which in turn stimulated large numbers of fairly new, low mileages part exchanges which continued to fuel the used car market.
‘Most manufacturers’ recent investments in research and development have produced spectacular results and most customers for new cars are surprised and delighted with the improvements in technology, economy and safety that the new vehicle they are buying has attained, relative to the one they are part exchanging.’
