The Beijing Motor Show 2014 opened its doors to the public yesterday and delivered an exciting selection of production and concept car launches.
Known as the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, this motor show is especially important for the manufacturers, with China being such a fast-growing market, and plenty of new models were set to be on display.
Trusted Dealers has listed some of the highlights of this year’s Show below.
There were some big car launches at the show to include the latest Volkswagen Golf R 400 offering more than 400bhp in what is essentially a Golf hatchback! The new concept marks 40 years since the Volkswagen Golf was first launched with the new concept reflecting “the sporty potential of the model series” according to the team at VW.
Audi brought out a new concept SUV modelled on the recently unveiled new Audi TT. The Audi TT Offroad concept is likely to be badged as a Q4 and combines traditional SUV styling with the sporty profile of the TT. The five-door concept model offers a 2+2 set-up with the rear seats able to partially fold down . The dash has a cleaner look with controls mainly focussed on the wheel. Power is expected to come from an e-tron plug-in hybrid system.
Based on the Mulsanne saloon, this Bentley Hybrid concept previews the plug-in hybrid that is set to debut in Bentley’s forthcoming SUV from 2017 before making its way across the range. Bentley has yet to confirm numbers but official hints claim an increase in power of 25 percent and a drop in CO2 emissions of 70 percent. This would see the Mulsanne’s regular 505bhp 6.75-litre V8 engine manage 631bhp whilst emitting just 118g/km of CO2. The concept will also manage at least 31 miles on electric power alone.
The BMW Future Vision Luxury concept car offers a car that demonstrates all of the styling, tech and hi-tech construction we can expect on the next 7-series premium saloon which is due to arrive in showrooms in late 2015. The concept is similar in size to this luxury car and, according to senior vice-president of design Adrian van Hooydonk, “takes our thinking on modern luxury a logical stage further”.
The Mercedes Concept Coupe may be concept at the moment, but it is actually provides us with a very realistic preview of a production car likely to be badged MLC and set to rival the BMW X6 from 2015. The wide front grille, slim headlights and converging creases on the flanks echo the GLA-class. The picture also shows a drastically plunging roofline, underlining the coupe-SUV fusion.
