Mazda launches 25th anniversary special edition MX-5Back

MX5 In celebration of its 25th Anniversary, Mazda has just launched a unique limited edition MX-5.

The iconic two-seater sports car celebrates one quarter of a decade with the launch of a new MX-5 Roadster Coupe 2.0-litre 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, which will go on sale in the UK from 1 August.

The first MX-5 model was revealed to the public on February 9th at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and caused quite a sensation with onlookers. Mazda successfully reintroduced a category of vehicle which had become almost extinct during the early 70s and it was an instant hit across the world, far outstripping even the company’s own sales predictions.

In May 2000, global production reached 531,890 units and at this point the MX-5 was certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car in history, and by February 2011, production had passed 900,000 units and the Guinness certification was updated.

In celebration of its success, the team at Mazda will build just 1000 individually numbered examples of the Mazda MX-5 Roadster 25th Anniversary Limited Edition with 750 of them made exclusively available to UK customers. The first model will be unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on 26th-29th June.

Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda UK said: “To date, three generations of Mazda MX-5 have witnessed the release of over 43 Special Edition models in the UK since 1990. None, however, could be more significant to us than this 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, which marks such an important milestone for a car that single-handedly reintroduced the world to the pleasures of exhilarating and affordable open-topped motoring.”

MX5bWith a comprehensive equipment specification based on the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe 2.0 litre Sport Tech Nav, the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition offers its lucky owners a wealth of additional features unavailable on any other Mazda MX-5 to include a pillars and power-operated retractable hardtop roof. 17-inch Dark Gunmetal alloy wheels and a rear diffuser and chrome exhaust trim.

Step into the cabin to enjoy plenty of exclusive interior features such as heated, Light Stone leather trimmed upholstery, 25th Anniversary logo-embossed headrests, a bespoke, hand-painted Dark Red dashboard decoration panel, Brilliant Black roll-over bar covers, an alloy pedal set and a 6.1-inch touch screen Mazda Navigation System exclusively engineered for Mazda by Alpine.
