With lots of dodgy car dealers out there, it’s hard to know who you can rely on. Finding a Trusted Dealer is vital if you want to make sure you find the right car for the right price and guarantee a good deal.

The Trusted Dealers website was created to help prospective buyers find the best deals on new and used cars, and to provide a reliable website which could be used to make sure buyers get the best deal they can when purchasing a new or used car.

We’re very confident that once you have visited a Trusted Dealer, you’ll never go anywhere else. However, if you’re worried about a dealership you’re planning to visit, we have compiled a guide to help you decipher which dealers are trustworthy and which are not.

  1. One of the best ways to find out if a dealer is reputable is to ask around. Speak to family and friends in your local area and find out what their experiences were at a typical garage, and more importantly, would they rate the after sales care they received? If the same names frequently recur then you can be sure you’ve found a trusted dealer.
  1. Check how long the business has been running – if it has been around for many years, the dealers should be well aware of how to look after their customers and generate repeat business. Businesses that are long in the tooth generally recognise and exercise the importance of gaining repeat custom.
  1. If you are not sure if the trader you have contacted is actually an official trader or just a private seller, be cautious when you first contact them. To check if someone is genuine, it’s always best to say you are calling about the “car advertised” as opposed to naming the car as a Renault Clio or a Volkswagen Golf. If they are a trader then they will have to ask you which car you are referring to.
  1. Finally and most importantly, it pays to trust your gut instinct. When you make a visit to a garage, keep your eyes open and make note of how well kept the showroom is. Do sales staff come across as friendly and confident? If you can, find out how long the dealer you are speaking to has been employed by the company – a high turnover of staff usually signals a badly run business.
