Euro NCAP, the independent testing organisation, has announced that the Nissan Qashqai has achieved the highest score of any small family car in the company’s 2014 safety testing.
Euro NCAP organizes crash-tests and provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe.
The award winning small family crossover scored more points than any other car in its class tested throughout 2014, which is down to a host of new and innovative safety features employed by the company such as the Nissan Safety Shield.
The latest accolade adds to Nissan’s triple success at Euro NCAP with the new Nissan X-Trail and the new Nissan Pulsar also receiving a full set of five stars, strengthening the appeal of the Nissan as a brand that can be trusted for safety and quality.
Designed and engineered to offer the best possible levels of protection for children, the new Qashqai also received a high score in the Child Occupant tests. Based on readings from the child dummies used in the dynamic tests, the Qashqai scored maximum points for its protection of an 18-month old infant. The Qashqai’s front bumper also scored maximum points for the protection provided to pedestrians’ legs.
A key factor in the Qashqai’s strong Euro NCAP performance was its new Safety Shield technologies which incorporate Forward Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. The Nissan Safety Shield also features Blind Spot Warning and Moving Object Detection, systems made possible and accessible thanks to Nissan’s acclaimed Around View Monitor technology.
The Mercedes-Benz C-class won the accolade for the best performing large family car in the Euro NCAP crash tests whilst the new Skoda Fabia was the top-rated small hatchback. In the small MPV category, the Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan took the honours while the Land Rover Discovery Sport was named the best small off-road 4×4.
