The importance of a trustworthy dealerBack

240713 Trusted DealerThe has today reported that as cars get more sophisticated, do-it-yourself repairs are becoming few and far between.

A recent survey conducted by Warranty Direct has discovered that part of the problem is down to cars becoming a lot more complex. For example, a simple job such as changing a headlamp used to be something that the average motorists could just about manage, but in recent years this has evolved into a professional mechanic taking 96 minutes to fit it.

The survey also revealed that professional mechanics now need as long as 36 minutes to make simple oil and filter changes. Duncan McClure Fisher, Warranty Direct’s managing director said: “The days of changing oil, filters and replacing light bulbs on the driveway are fast becoming a thing of the past – in some cases, they already are.”

Nobody can argue with the fact that the improvements in cars in the past twenty years is phenomenal and we continue to watch in awe as new proposals to offer the latest drive technology continue to permeate into the motoring world, with the promise of self-driving cars on the agenda in the next few years.

However, the downside to all this is that motorists are no longer able to carry out simple tasks on their cars themselves, but instead pay millions of pounds to garages to do the work for them. With average labour costs at garages amounting to £96 an hour, and for some as much as £200, it pays to go to a garage you can trust.
