The annual awards provide an opportunity for What Car’s panel of expert judges to name the best second-hand cars to hit the British forecourts.
At present, there is plenty to celebrate with the used car market reaching a record level of £38.1 billion in 2012, rising from £32.4 billion in 2008. On average, there are seven million used car sales annually, in comparison to 2.5 million new car sales.
As well as the team of What Car? experts, this year the panel of judges included our very own used car expert, Neil Addley, managing director of Trusted Dealers!
Ford Focus won the overall ‘Used Car of the Year’ title, and if you are after an accomplished family car, you’ll struggle to find anything better on the used car market.
Prices for the 2011 Ford Focus 1.6 105 Zetec with around 11,000 miles on the clock start at £8,000, and for this you’ll benefit from a car that falls into group 11 insurance, claims fuel economy of 47.9mpg and has low service costs, making it a great value hatchback.
The Focus handles better than any other car in its class and offers a smooth ride with plenty of grip. Its practical too, being both narrower and longer than its predecessor, but still offering a decent sized boot and enough legroom for adults in the back.
Equipment is impressive on the Ford Focus, and all cars come with DAB radio and Bluetooth as standard, but What Car? recommend the Ford Focus Zetec to achieve the best overall value for money.
Neil Addley, Managing Director of Trusted Dealers said: “The whole judging process was really interesting as there are such proliferation of great cars available at the moment. That said, the Ford Focus in its latest guise is a worthy winner.”
