As part of Mercedes-Benz’s launch campaign for its new, ultra-low emissions car, it undertook a rather natty publicity stunt. One side of the car was covered in LEDs, forming a basic TV screen. On the other side of the car, a camera filmed the scene and the image was projected onto the LED screen.
The effect has been mooted for some time as a way of creating ‘invisibility’ for military vehicles, but this is the first time we’ve seen a practical application. It’s a great little video and the visuals neatly dovetail with what Mercedes call the car’s “invisibility” to the environment.
