Top three city cars for mumsBack

City cars are a hot topic of conversation at the moment, having enjoyed increased sales during the past twelve months.

One of the most important things to remember about city cars is that you don’t have to feel limited by space. Many of the most recently built city cars such as the new Volkswagen up! are now making sure that they cater directly for the needs of families and the working world, offering five door models, larger boots and more overall passenger head and leg room.

The safety features and equipment currently available in city cars has become more and more appealing too, and as we continue to live through the recession, it is evident that the city car is indeed the answer to all mum’s prayers. Check out below the Trusted Dealers’ top three favourite city cars for mums:

Vauxhall Agila: Prices available from £1,745

This is a practical car offered at a competitive price. The five-door model is ideal for a family of four offering a spacious cabin with remarkable leg and head room. The standard Vauxhall Agila Expression model is very basic, but upgrade to an S model and you’ll benefit from 15 inch alloy wheels, air conditioning and electric windows. Although the boot is not as spacious as some rivals, split folding the seats will provide enough room for even the most awkward of buggies!

Volkswagen up! Prices available new from £7,995 OTR

This is the latest city car unveiled by Volkswagen, available to order now and collect by March 2012. It’s set to be a huge success having already been named ‘Small Car of the Year’ by TopGear magazine. The VW up! is available as a five-door model and offers mum’s maximum space coupled with excellent fuel economy and CO2 emissions of less than 100g/km. It’s one of the smallest

four-seater city cars on the market but its long wheelbase design maximises cabin and boot space, meaning both mums and kids can benefit from plenty of space for their everyday needs.

Citroen C1: Prices available from £3,595

The Citroen C1 is another excellent choice for mums who are looking for a car that is economical and therefore cheap to run. This tiny but mean machine offers CO2 emissions as low as 106g/km and can achieve a highly impressive 62.8mpg. In addition, the C1 can seat four adults comfortably and offers a five-door model for maximum ease and comfort. The C1 is offered with a 1.0 thre-cylinder petrol engine which is lively enough for city driving and it offers a nippy ride about town. The boot is relatively small but its capacity can be increased once the seats are laid flat.
