Sergio Pininfarina: 1926 – 2012Back

A hurried post today in response to the news that Sergio Pininfarina has died today in Turin aged 85. If you don’t know the name Pininfarini, then you most certainly know the cars that he and his company designed. Perhaps best known for his creations for some of Italy’s most famous names – Ferrari in particular – his influence on car design over the last 50 years was immense. Not just limited to supercars, Pininfarini’s studio have also produced cars for the likes of Peugeot and Volvo under the master’s guide – making some of the best looking every day cars to have graced the roads.

Along with Gandini, Bertone and Giugiaro, Pininfarini will be remembered as part of a tradition of visual flair in car design that will live long in the hearts of all those who love cars. Our favourite in the office is his achingly pretty Fiat Dino of 1966, but it’s a tough call in a line-up of greatness.

Perhaps no better tribute can be paid than to show you a quick selection of Pininfarini’s best known designs.
