HROn 16 May this year the maximum penalty for employing illegal workers rose from £10k to £20k per illegal worker. (This penalty could be reduced to £15k if no illegal worker has been employed during the previous 3 years).

However, it is more important than ever to ensure your recruitment and employment systems and procedures are watertight. You must carry out checks if you have any doubt that your potential new employee is not allowed to work in the UK.

Any person entering the UK and wishing to work will either be a EU citizen with the relevant passport or should have documentation relating to their eligibility to work here. There are checklists available on line, and you should advise whoever recruits staff at your dealership to be aware of the changes.
