This week saw the UK new car market achieve an all time high in March with a growth of 8.4% and 562,337 vehicles registered. The registration plate change combined with new VED rates, which came into effect on 1 April and prompted buyers to bring their purchases forward into March, strongly supported the market throughout the month. Light commercial vehicles saw a decrease of -0.9% in March, this market is expected to remain stable going forward. If you would like to receive a copy of the registration figures, please email email@example.com.
On Thursday 6 April, the results of the NFDA Consumer Attitude Survey Spring 2017 were published. The survey has confirmed clear trends and revealed new interesting findings about consumer behaviour in the car aftersales industry. The survey will continue to run twice yearly to demonstrate clear tendencies and help dealers target specific areas to improve the customer experience at dealerships. An online version of the report is available on the NFDA website: http://bit.ly/2o63695.
A reminder: following the Government’s decision to consult on whether to extend a vehicle’s first MOT test date from 3 years to 4 years, the NFDA/RMI are currently preparing a response to highlight the detrimental effects that this would have on road safety. We encourage you to contact your local MP to add weight to the argument and we have drafted a template letter for your use. If you would like a copy of the letter, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also, an online petition to maintain the current first MOT date for cars at three years has been set up and can be signed here – https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/190843.
Finally, we have secured a number of tickets for NFDA members to attend The London Motor Show’s Private Drinks Reception on 4 May from 7pm to 10pm.
