Welcome Note from Sue RobinsonBack

Dear colleague,

Following the unexpected results of the 2017 General Election, it is vital that a stable environment is restored as soon as possible. We will be monitoring the ongoing developments closely and will continue to engage with the Government to build new relationships and solidify existing ones.

This week I met with officials from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Automotive Regulatory Unit and Brexit working group. The purpose of the meeting was to ensure that the retail side of the automotive sector is included (alongside manufacturers) in discussions and initiatives relating to the adoption and shaping of regulations affecting the sector pre and post Brexit. We will keep you updated.

The UK new car market declined by -8.5% in May, with a total of 186,265 units registered. Overall in the first five months of the year, the market is -0.6% lower than last year. Positively, alternative fuel vehicles saw an impressive growth of 46.7% and reached a record market share of 4.4%. Light commercial vehicles sales fell by -5.3% in May, this market is possibly realigning after an extremely buoyant year. If you would like to receive a copy of the registration figures, please email louise.woods@rmif.co.uk.

We will be in Bristol on Tuesday 13 and Cobham on Thursday 15 for June’s regional meetings. Used and new car markets, GDPR, finance and insurance, and employment concerns, as well as any issues affecting the dealer-manufacturer relationship, are on the agenda. If you would like to attend, please contact louise.woods@rmif.co.uk.

Mark Squires, Chairman NFDA, Graeme Potts, CEO Eden Motors, Peter Smyth, Director Swansway Group, and Philip Nothard, cap hpi Black Book Editor will be speaking at the Motor Trader Summit taking place at the London Olympia Conference Centre on 12 July. The event is free for dealers; you can find more information and register to attend here.

NFDA is your trade association and we are here to support you. We want to hear from you, if there is any issue that currently is not in our agenda and you would like us to cover, or if you need any assistance, please pick up the phone and contact us on the member helpline –  01788 538303
