DVLA UPDATE ON TRADE PLATESBack

Trade plate holders please take note:

It is important to renew trade licences promptly to ensure that the trade plates are valid for use on the road. It is also important to note that trade plates must be displayed correctly when a vehicle is driven on the road.

Display of trade plates

  • Must be displayed on a vehicle as long as it is visible and vertical on both the front and rear (rear only for motorcycles)
  • Cannot be displayed inside a vehicle
  • Must not cover the vehicle’s existing number plates (except motorcycles)

Full guidance notes are available at: www.gov.uk/government/publications/vtl301g-guidance-notes.

 Online vehicle management services

Online services allow motorist to tell DVLA electronically when they sell a vehicle to the motor trade, buy from the trade or when vehicles change keeper. These services offer benefits in terms of speed, accuracy and customer service and are available at www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle

Finally, a reminder that your customers can now tax their vehicle online 24/7 at www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax or by phone on 0300 123 4321 using the reference number on the green ‘new keeper’s slip’ (V5C/2) from the V5C registration certificate (logbook).
