Consumers are increasingly hitting dealerships this summer to buy or lease a new car, truck or SUV, keeping car sales for 2014 on a rate that is higher than many analysts had expected just a few months ago. Some analysts in recent weeks have increased their new-car sales predictions for 2014 based on stronger-than-expected sales in May and June. And some believe July sales could be the best since 2006. The National Automobile Dealers Association expects 16.4 million U.S. car sales this year, and NADA chief economist Steven Szakaly predicts close to 16.8 million for 2015.
