NFDA COMMENT – UK CAR SALES PASS EU NEW CAR CO2 EMISSIONS LANDMARKBack

CO2“It is positive to see that average new car CO2 emissions are almost 30% lower than in 2000, boosted by increasing uptake of the most efficient engine technologies, alternatively-fuelled vehicles sold by our Franchised Dealers”, said Sue Robinson.

New cars registered last year in the UK collectively met a European target for CO2 emissions, according to a new report published this week by industry body SMMT.

Robinson continued,” Reduction in emissions from new cars has helped lower total CO2 emissions from all the cars on the road by more than 15% over the last decade.

“Factors such as better mileage per gallon and lower vehicle excise duty have helped increase sales of low Co2 vehicles in 2013.

“The market is moving and consumers are opting for more economic cars which are cheaper to run and overall more beneficial for the environment”.
