“It is positive to see that the van market continued its upward trend in August ahead the of the 14-plate change.”, said Sue Robinson, Director of the National Franchised Dealers Association which represents commercial vehicle and franchised car retailers across the UK, commenting on the SMMT’s van and truck registration figures.
Total commercial vehicle figures released today show registrations were up 11.9% in August, increasing registrations to 214,959 for the year-to-date. The van market continued to grow and was up an encouraging 22.3%, however truck registrations continued to decline with a fall of -22% for the year-to-date.
Robinson continued, “Once again it was disappointing to see that the truck sector is still seeing the effects of the introduction of the Euro 6 models. Tractors that are mainly used in distributions such as supermarkets also saw a decline.
“On a more positive note it was encouraging to see the heavy 3-4 axel specialist vehicles becoming stable. We hope to see this continue next month with the new 14-plate change”.
