Welcome note from Sue RobinsonBack

sue-robinsonDear Colleague,

This week, I met with Shadow Business Minister Bill Esterson MP: an ideal opportunity to discuss the importance of the UK auto retailing industry and the representation that the sector needs during Brexit negotiations. Please see the news for more details.

On Thursday, the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) held its annual dinner at the Landmark Hotel in London – Andrew Neil, guest speaker for the night, pointed out that the biggest challenge for the UK will be to “get the attention of the EU”. Please find more information below.

New passenger car registrations in the EU grew by 7.2% in September totalling 1,455,180 units, according to the latest official figures revealed by the ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers Association). The overall market is up 8.0% in the first nine months of the year compared with 2015. EU Commercial vehicles also saw an increase of 6.0% in September.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed that, although the volume of UK retail sales was flat in September, it has grown by 1.8% in the third quarter compared with last year. This was the fastest rate since the final quarter of 2014, suggesting that consumer confidence has remained steady following the EU referendum.

Finally, we are delighted to invite you to the NFDA Roadshow taking place on Friday 25 November 2016, at the Hilton Warwick. It will provide an ideal opportunity for members to receive an update on the latest issues affecting the industry, including guidance from the CMA. Please see the news for more details, and contact to register to attend the event.

NFDA is your trade body, if you need any advice or clarifications, please contact us on the member helpline 01788 538303.
