New car and commercial vehicle sales figures were released for September. It is positive to see that the new car market has continued to remain strong with registrations up 6% – the biggest September since 2004. CV registrations were up in all sectors of the market – with a 24.8% growth in trucks and 19.6% in van registrations – boosted by the new 65-plate. If you would like to receive the registration figures each month please email email@example.com.
This week saw the end of the Party Conference season. The NFDA attended the Labour Party Conference in Brighton on the 28 September, and the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester on 5 October. I had some interesting and productive meetings with Richard Burden MP Shadow Transport Minister, the Rt Hon Mike Penning MP Minister of State, and Heather Wheeler MP. I attended the SMMT lunch, and also met with a number of policy directors from vehicle manufacturers. Issues discussed at the conference included the current Volkswagen emissions situation, NFDA’s anti-fraud campaign (clocking), the Consumer Rights Act, the relationship between car manufacturers and their dealers, and the proposed MOT consultation paper. A full round up will be sent separately.
Also, a reminder if you have not yet responded to our MOT questionnaire and our budget submission recommendation, can you please do so as soon as possible.
