Welcome note from Sue RobinsonBack

Dear Colleague,

It was extremely positive to see that the EU published its guidelines for the second phase of Brexit negotiations and agreed to a two-year transition period. We are hopeful that this will provide more certainty to businesses and consumers. We are looking forward to seeing how negotiations unfold and we will continue to engage with Ministers, Parliamentarians and Officials at both a national and EU level.

With the new year upon us, the compliance deadline for General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is only a couple of months away. It is essential that franchised retailers have a solid strategy for compliance in place and, to continue to assist you, we will hold two more GDPR workshops on contract remediation. They will be run by NFDA Solicitors TLT on Thursday 1 February and Friday 9 March 2018 at the Hilton Warwick: if you would like to attend, please contact louise.woods@rmif.co.uk. We have also launched an NFDA GDPR helpline: for all your urgent enquiries, ring 01788 538 304.

Early 2018 will also see the launch of our project with Get My First Job which aims to highlight the competitive and rewarding opportunities that NFDA members offer and attract young people to the retail automotive industry. Through the new Drive My Career website, candidates will be redirected to members’ career pages where they will be able to apply for the roles best suited to their skills and interests. The winter issue of our quarterly magazine The Voice, due to be published next week, will include more details about the initiative.

This week, the Bank of England confirmed that interest rates will be held at 0.50% following last month’s increase from their previous record low of 0.25%. Official figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that although the total number of people employed decreased, unemployment rates also fell to a joint record low. More details below.

Finally: the NFDA Spring Ball will be back soon! It will take place on 21 April 2018 at the Grove Resort in Hertfordshire. Ring Louise Woods on 01788 538 332 to book your place.
