Clean Air Zones
Clean air zones – what and where?
Clean Air Zones will be introduced in Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Derby and Southampton by 2020 under plans to reduce pollution.
Most polluting vehicles, like old buses, taxis, coaches and lorries will discouraged from entering the zone through charges. At the present time private vehicles will not be affected.
In Greater London measures are stricter and will impact private vehicles. In October 2017 a “T charge” emissions surcharge is being introduced for vehicles entering the congestion charge zone that were manufactured before 2005. An Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is also being implemented in 2020; however this could be brought forward to 2019.
