This 3 Series is the second model from German automaker BMW to receive the Gran Turismo (GT) treatment, and this fastback variant made its debut at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show. Featuring similar styling as the larger 5 Series GT, the five-door 3 Series GT benefits from the same sporty driving dynamics as the standard saloon model, while increases in interior space have boosted its overall practicality and comfort. There is little to criticise in the 3 Series GT, and it is a firmly popular choice amongst rivals like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate, Audi A5 Sportback and Jaguar XE.

Performance in the 3 Series GT is strong across the board thanks to the extensive choice of powerful petrol and diesel engines. The range kicks off with the entry-level 318d, which propels the 3 Series GT from 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds. This model is also the most efficient, returning as much as 62.8mpg and emitting as little as 119g/km of CO2. The range-topping engine is the 335i M Sport, a rapid six-cylinder which shaves down the benchmark sprint time to just 5.4 seconds. All the engines are fantastically efficient, which when combined with the firm residuals ensures that the sums add up with the 3 Series Gran Turismo.

The interior of the 3 Series GT is well-appointed and well-built, and is virtually identical to the standard model. The SE, Sport, Luxury and M Sport trims are familiar across the BMW range, and give the possibility to tailor the 3 Series GT to personal requirements. Standard equipment in even the most basic SE model is generous, and includes alloy wheels, a 6.5-inch control display, automatic tailgate, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone air-conditioning and much more. The 520-litre boot capacity is a 40-litre increase from the standard model, which means that practicality in the GT is fantastic.

The BMW 3 Series GT features the very best in terms of comfort, quality and overall driving enjoyment. The fun handling and powerful engines on offer are hard to find fault with, making the 3 Series GT a highly popular and appealing executive car.
