The Ford Mondeo has been a consistently popular large family car ever since its market launch. First unveiled in 1992 as a successor to the Ford Sierra, the Mondeo has seen huge sales success, resulting in numerous award wins and critical acclaim. The large family car class features strong competition such as the Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb and Mazda 6, but the greater refinement and higher levels of technology found in the current fourth generation model keeps the Mondeo as an attractive contender.
The Mondeo comes in a large range of petrol and diesel engines, and for the first time a petrol-electric hybrid. Power outputs range from 118bhp to 237bhp. The range kicks off with the entry-level 118bhp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel unit, closely followed by the 123bhp 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoost, which gives an impressive performance despite its small size. The engines progress through to the 2.0-litre diesel unit in a choice of 148bhp, 177bhp and 207bhp power outputs, and the range-topping 237bhp 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol. The tax-efficient petrol-electric hybrid has CO2 emissions of 99g/km and is available in saloon body style.
The current generation Mondeo is much more upmarket, featuring sleek exterior design and generous levels of technology to equip the refined interior. Trim levels span the entry-level Style, through Zetec, Titanium, Titanium X, ST-Line up to the newest luxury Vignale trim. The basic Style trim is generously equipped as standard, and includes an eight-inch infotainment screen with the Sync2 system, DAB radio, 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control and electric parking brake amongst others. Plenty of optional accessory packs are also on offer, so the Mondeo can be tailored to virtually any requirements. The excellent cabin space ensures maximum comfort for front and rear passengers alike, while the impressive 541-litre boot makes the Mondeo hard to beat in terms of practicality.
The Ford Mondeo offers space and comfort without compromising on driving performance, thanks to its large range of refined engines and great levels of tech.
