The Transit Custom is a mid-size light commercial vehicle produced by the Ford Europe subsidiary of the American automaker Ford Motor Company since 2012. The Custom is a distinct and standalone model which branched off from the full-size '2 tonne' Transit, and is a '1 tonne' smaller vehicle solely featuring front-wheel drive. The Transit Custom debuted at the 2012 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, and is a direct competitor to rivals such as the Volkswagen Transporter, Vauxhall Vivaro, Citroen Dispatch and Renault Trafic.

The original 2012 launched Transit Custom model featured two wheelbases, a single roof height and three power outputs of the Ford 2.2-litre Duratorq engine. Since then a higher roof was added and the powerplant was replaced by Ford's all-new 2.0-litre EcoBlue TDCi engine. This downsized engine is available in 104bhp, 128bhp and 168bhp power outputs, and benefits from cleaner exhaust emissions and 15% fuel savings compared to the outgoing larger unit. The two lower-powered units utilise automatic stop/start technology and claim combined fuel economy of 46mpg all while emitting less than 157g/km CO2. The most powerful engine still fares well on figures however, attaining 43mpg and 172g/km CO2 emissions. All units are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, with automatic transmission expected to feature later in 2017.

The Transit Custom has between 6.0 and 8.3 cubic metres of load volume depending on which roof variant is chosen, meaning that it is hugely practical and incredibly competitive. All models feature a full-width steel bulkhead for protection and security, while an integrated roof rack and LED load area lighting is optional. Three trim levels (Trend, Limited and Sport) are available, featuring lots of kit as standard, and all models come with generous levels of safety equipment. The Transit Custom holds a maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash rating- it was the first commercial vehicle to receive the top award.

The Ford Transit Custom is understandably one of the UK's best-selling vans, offering fantastic levels of safety and delivering a great overall driving experience.
