It is testament to Ford's work in creating such a popular vehicle that the word 'Transit' has for so many become a word to describe all vans of a certain shape and size. The Ford Transit encompasses a range of light commercial vehicles which were first introduced to the UK market in 1965. The Transit became the UK's best-selling commercial vehicle in its first year of production, and worldwide over 8 million units have been sold. The fourth generation Transit was unveiled at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, and is an ever popular model against rivals such as the Volkswagen Transporter, Vauxhall Movano and Renault Trafic.

A 2016 update of the Transit saw it adopting the latest EcoBlue TDCi engines, compliant with the latest Euro-6 regulations. Compared to the outgoing engines, these offer a 13% boost in fuel economy and feature a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to reduce NOX emissions. The 2.0-litre diesel on offer comes in power outputs of 103bhp, 129bhp or 168bhp, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The most frugal configuration of the Transit will return up to 42.2mpg. Front-wheel, rear-wheel and four-wheel drive are on offer, the latter of which occupies a niche gap in the van market.

Three different load lengths and two rood heights can be chosen, ranging in load volume from 9.6m3 to 15.1m3, easily accessible via the rear doors which open a full 180 degrees. Depending on model, cargo capacity is up to 2.3 tonnes. Safety equipment in the Transit is second to none, and incorporates one of the best ESC stability control systems available. The two trim levels, Base and Trend, allow scope to add the latest tech. Base models come well-equipped, with the Ford SYNC system, Bluetooth, 4-inch infotainment system, pre-collision assist and much more as standard.

The Ford Transit offers the very best in practicality and safety, and is available in a huge array of configurations. The Transit sets the benchmark for standards in the van market, and is understandably the third best-selling van of all time.
