Launched at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and with sales commencing the following year, the Adam is a three-door supermini hatchback produced by German manufacturer Opel under the Vauxhall marque in the UK. European sales of the Adam have surpassed 200,000 since its launch, and rival the Fiat 500, Mini, Audi A1 and Citroen DS3. At the core of the Adam concept is its huge scope for personalisation, offering endless style options and a fun image. With Vauxhall claiming over 30,000 possible combinations, there really is something to suit every buyer, and the Adam was the deserving winner of the Red Dot car Design Award in 2013.

The Adam comes with a range of petrol engines: a 69bhp 1.2-litre unit, a 1.4-litre unit in 86bhp and 99bhp power outputs, and the 2014 addition of a 1.0-litre ECOTEC with 89bhp or 113bhp outputs. The latter engine in the 89bhp power output has fuel consumption of 62mpg and low CO2 emissions of 99g/km, which keeps the tax low. As well as the standard models there are also two other specifications with their own engine choices, termed the Adam Rocks and the Adam S. The off-road Rocks model has a higher-positioned crossover-style design, while the S is a sportier warm-hatch. The quick steering and keen grip of the Adam gives great response on country roads, while the purpose-built City mode gives a light and natural feel for urban driving and parking.

The modern and fresh exterior of the Adam continues inside, which boasts a slick dashboard and high-quality materials throughout. 18 seat finishes, 20 trim insert colours, 5 roof lining options and even the choice to add a 64 LED 'starlight' ceiling mean that there really are limitless options when it comes to personalisation of the Adam. The three trim levels are named Jam, Glam and Slam, giving scope to tailor the Adam even further. Entry-level models come with 16-inch alloy wheels, USB connectivity, CD player, Bluetooth, air-conditioning, digital radio, trip computer and cruise control as standard.

The extent of personalisation that is available with the Adam makes it one of the most fun-looking superminis on the market, and with its strong range of petrol engines it is perfectly suited to city driving.
