The Scirocco is a compact sport coupe produced by German manufacturer Volkswagen. After undergoing two generations of production between 1974 and 1992, the Scirocco ceased development for 16 years until its reintroduction to the market as its current third generation model in 2008. The Scirocco today remains largely the same as when it was relaunched, with a mild facelift in 2014 bringing subtle changes to the appearance and engine line-up. The Scirocco has far-reaching competition from the likes of the VW's own Golf GTI and Audi TT, to rear drive coupes like the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ. Sporty appearance and strong handling means that despite the age gap, the Scirocco still follows in the footsteps of its predecessor.

From launch there was a wide range of petrol and diesel engines on offer, with the 2014 facelift modifying the line-up slightly. The current range on offer comprises 123bhp 1.4-litre and 123bhp or 178bhp 2.0-litre TSI petrol units, and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel unit in 148bhp and 181bhp power outputs. All engines are frugal and efficient, meaning the Scirocco delivers on substance as well as style. While all engines provide a comfortable ride, optional Dynamic Chassis Control allows the driver to alter the stiffness of the suspension and weight of the steering, adapting the Scirocco to different driving situations.

The Scirocco exhibits a stylish exterior with high attention to build quality. Standard equipment across the range is strong, with entry-level models featuring 17-inch alloy wheels, DAB radio, Bluetooth, air-conditioned glovebox and LED tail-lamps. Standard safety features are also strong, and the Scirocco is equipped with six airbags, rear seat Isofix mountings, emergency breaking hazard lights and electronic stability control, which have ensured a maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating. This, along with the generous cabin space and 312-litre boot capacity, makes the Scirocco a safe and practical car.

The Scirocco is a well-equipped and classy sport coupe, featuring a range of refined engines and delivering a great all-round driving experience.
